Largest Paternal Families

The Paternal Families with the largest number of generations makes an interesting list especially when compared to Maternal Families which have fewer generations; history favours the paternal perhaps:

COUNTRY FAMILY NUMBER OF PEOPLE GENERATIONS
ENGLAND ANJOU 339 35
SCOTLAND STEWART 439 30
SCOTLAND DOUGLAS 342 28
ENGLAND HASTINGS 170 26
ENGLAND NEVILLE 249 26
ENGLAND SEYMOUR 151 26
FRANCE CAPET 920 26
ENGLAND HOWARD 306 25
ENGLAND GREY 237 24
ENGLAND TALBOT 137 24
LOW COUNTRIES REGINAR 142 24
ENGLAND STANLEY 131 23
ENGLAND BERKELEY 116 21
ENGLAND CAVENDISH 86 20
NORMANDY COURTENAY 120 20
ENGLAND ARUNDELL 95 18
ENGLAND FIENNES 47 18
ENGLAND MONTAGU 94 18
ENGLAND RUSSELL 65 18
BURGUNDY IVREA 148 18
ENGLAND BUTLER 114 17
ENGLAND SPENCER 68 17
ENGLAND STAFFORD 76 17
ENGLAND VERE 71 17
NORMANDY FITZALAN 66 17
ENGLAND ST JOHN 91 16
NORMANDY DAUBIGNY 45 16
NORMANDY DEVEREUX 42 16
GERMANY WITTELSBACH 138 16
IRELAND BURGH 52 16
LOW COUNTRIES LUXEMBOURG 85 16

The list contains a number of unfinished families, especially those in Europe. It does, however, show the primary royal and noble families of each country; names that are familiar and current today.

Placing Anjou in England is something of a convenient conceit for now. I have published only the Paternal Families for England, Wales and Normandy for now. Scotland, Ireland, France, Spain, etc are, broadly complete, but not sufficiently complete for publication.
